We’re Going to Need More Wine

To be honest the bait for me was the title “WE’RE GOING TO NEED MORE WINE”. Wine is good you know! It calms a woman’s nerves. So in the beginning of the year, I grabbed this book and was thrilled by the mere imagination of more splashes into the glass.

Secondly, I love Gabriel Union as a bubbly actress. Did you watch Being Mary Jane and the hyped Think like a Man Act like a Woman movie? Oh Boy! This woman is gifted. My indulgence into the text is slow and steady. For some reason I have taken a very reflective approach through the chapters.

G.U takes a much laid back approach to penning her autobiography. The humorous and some clumsy episodes she recounts are worth reading. One I have laughed through so far is that for the longest time she mistook he clit**** for her Ms. Vag***. She recounts her dreadful experience with the menses and the sex mis education. Just like most of us, she was told that once this elephant appears she could get pregnant. Just like that! And she recounts how she waited to see a swelling belly in vain. Are parents still mincing their words? Overly euphemizing this topic. Please do not lose a child. Take the bull by its horns.

G.U doesn’t mean that we get drunk literally; she means that we shall need to put up more man to man/woman to woman conversations around our many issues. We shall need to talk/listen longer over issues like: Rape, sexuality, divorce, parenting, our haunting past and relationships among others. Through her challenges and experiences, she highlights the power of opening up about our wins and our losses.
